The process of sintering is basically a pre-treatment process step during iron making to produce charge material called sinter for the blast furnace from iron ore fines and also from metallurgical wastes (collected dusts, sludge and mill scale etc.).

Mill scale is a very at- tractive industrial waste due to its richness in iron [about = 72 % Fe) [2]. In the whole world, 13.5 million tons of mill scales are generated annually [3]. Mill scale is suitable for direct recycling to the blast furnace via sintering plant [4]. Ap- proximately, 90% of mill scale .

These oxides, known as mill scale, occur during continuous casting, reheating and hot rolling operations. Mill scale is a valuable metallurgical raw material since it contains 65–70% iron. JSW Steel Ltd is a 7 Mtpa integrated steel plant and generates 270 t of mill scale per day.

Sintering or the agglomeration of fine ferrous compounds, mostly iron ore fines, but also internal waste such as flue dust, mill scale, and/or dusts from electrostatic precipitators, takes place at a sinter strand which is an endless chain of stringed pallets made from heat-resistant cast iron with a driving wheel and a turning back wheel (Fig ...

Before iron ore pellets became common, sintering was used to process fine ore so it could be fed into a blast furnace. This is stll being done overseas. Now, most sinter plants in the USA are the "garbage disposal" for the steel mill processing pellet fines, dust, and mill scale into blast furnace feed.

Mill scale (3-7% of the total steel rolling) is a expensive secondary material due to its high iron content, low impurities and stable chemical composition. The mill scale from the rolling process and all iron bearing wastes generated at the iron and steel plant site are commonly recycled into the sintering plant to produce high quality sinters.

Sinter plants agglomerate iron ore fines (dust) with other fine materials at high temperature, to create a product that can be used in a blast furnace. The final product, a sinter, is a small, irregular nodule of iron mixed with small amounts of other minerals. The process, called sintering, causes the constituent materials to fuse to make a single porous mass with little change in the chemical ...

A. Mill scale is oxides of iron and alloying elements present in steel. Obviously, it is a rich source of iron. Most of the steel plants recycle mill scale through sintering or pelletization. However, a value-added utilization of mill scale is in steel making after converting it into briquettes.

The mill scale contained a high proportion of wustite. magnetite, and metallic iron was pelletized in a disc pelletizer, using water as a binder material. The studies on pelletization was ...

Though it is regarded as a waste product, mill scale is recycled as a ferrous feed for iron sinter plants, which are plants very much associated with the manufacture of iron and steel. Therefore, mill scale is reused as a raw material for the manufacture of iron and because of this, it is increasingly traded as a bulk cargo. Sintering plants

18.4. NO x emissions and their mitigation technologies 18.4.1. Characteristics of NO x emissions. NO x is associated with air pollution problems such as "photochemical smog." In Japan, the amount of NO x emitted from sintering plants accounts for the majority of total NO x emissions from integrated steelworks (Morioka et al., 2000).

Oct 27, 2014· Sintering plant at a glance 1. 1 SINTERING PLANT 2. 2 DEFINITION OF SINTERING Sintering is a process of agglomeration of fine mineral particles into a porous and lumpy mass by incipient fusion caused by heat produced by combustion of solid fuel within the mass itself.

The invention relates to a method for the agglomeration of iron-oxide-containing residual materials, in particular scale and mill scale, wherein the residual materials and paper sludge are dried and ground and agglomerates are produced, by hot briquetting, from a mixture of the residual materials and paper sludge so processed. In this manner, it is possible to produce mill scale briquettes of ...
