My lm29 is around a year old now. I always a have trouble with the roller guides freezing up, or sawdust building up on them. The blade wants to ride up on the edge of the roller when pressure is applied and you end up with wavy cuts. I'm debating on buying the ceramic guides, but was wondering if their worth the 300. Anyone have any experience with them?

A third way to check if the guides are adjusted properly is to grasp the blade between the guide and the housing and twist it. If the gap is adjusted correctly, there will be no movement on the cutting portion of the blade. Repeat the procedure between the other guide and the housing on that side.

The big guides from Ted (right-most above) have nice knobs on either side, plus a locking ring. So large adjustments are quite nice. But getting the guides to just touch the blade and rub lightly was fiddly to get right, so also kind of annoying. The cheap blade guides from my 14" bandsaw were the easiest to adjust.

Iturra Band Rollers. Editor test-drive: Iturra's newest Band Rollers (model #10001) feature ceramic bearings in steel housings. I installed them in my 14" Delta saw in about 15 minutes, as they slid into the existing guide holders and adjusted with the same setscrews. There are no replacement thrust bearings.

The roller guides of small bandmills need to have 1/8" to 1/4" down Deflection. The blade should track about 1/16" to 1/8" off the back of the roller guide and the roller should be cocked about 1/32 of an inch from the front of the blade to the incoming side of the blade travel.

You'll get cooler and quieter band saw operation with any of our unique guide blocks and thrust bearings. Standard ceramic guide blocks to fit Delta 10, 12, 14, & 16 inch, Delta/Rockwell 20 inch, and Craftsman Old Style saws are just the beginning. Four-piece guide block sets handle upper and lower guides.

Note: I have adjusted the Carter Roller Guides for blade widths from 3/16" to 3/4" and had plenty of adjustment for all of them. After double checking all of the mounting and adjustment screws to be sure they were tight, I reinstalled the table and checked it for clearance with the lower guide assembly when tilted to 45-degrees. No problems.

I believe that the rollers should put about 1/8 to 1/4" down pressure on the band saw blade. That should be plenty to make them spin. Either (a) you don't have enough down pressure, or (b) the roller itself is not turning freely. Either way, you should figure out what the problem is and fix it. You need that pressure to saw consistently.

plate is held in the saw with guide rails. There are two or more bolts per guide rail. The upper wheel tilts to adjust tracking.Tilt is accomplished by wedging the sliding plate with an adjusting screw or bolt. When the wheel is tilted the sliding plate tilts in the guide rails. Therefore: the rails are not snug when there is no blade installed.

Jul 06, 2017· Side Guides (Front to Back) The front of the side guides should be located about 1/16″ back from the deepest part of the blade gullets. You don't want the side guides to contact the cutting teeth of the blade since the teeth flare out at a slight angle. This adjustment is made to both the top and bottom guides. Thrust Bearings

Jan 16, 2013· Good work Hal,what is critical on guides is the distance from where the band rides on the roller to the lowest part of the guide. That dimention should be less than an inch that way your last board can be one inch.Needless to say your fast [stationary] guide should not interfere with the log stops. No real need to have your movable guide go much less than 12".Square tube in square tube with a ...

Adjust the guides. Many of the procedures above are one-time only adjustments, but every time you put a new blade in your saw you'll have to reset the guides and thrust bearings. Here's how to do it right. 14) Back off the thrust bearings above and below the table. Adjust the side guides, above and below the table, so they don't touch the ...

I understand that WoodMiser guides are set with a certain amount of "down pressure", deflection, on the band. My mill uses Carter guides that have solid support blocks and a back-up wheel. The guides are supposed to be set-up so the band just touches the bottom block with a slight clearance between the top of the band and the top block.

Ceramic guides work well, as long as you keep them adjusted. If you are a "set it and forget it" person, or operating a production mill with wider blades and power feed, roller guides may be a better choice. Roller guides, on the other hand, put between 1/8" to 1/4" downward deflection on the blade which holds the blade steady.
